## How I Noticed This
On September 21, 2023, I woke up at 7:30 a.m. and planned my morning routine, which included taking a shower, eating breakfast, writing in my diary, and having quiet time. However, I found myself getting sidetracked by reading tweets, articles, and planning tasks on Linear. Before I knew it, it was already 10 a.m., and I hadn't started anything I had planned. This issue has been recurring, leaving me with a sense that time is slipping away while I engage in activities that don't provide much value. I recognize the need to address and resolve this problem.
## The Root Cause
During the time I wasted, I mainly focused on processing information. The information comes from various sources such as the internet, Substack, Twitter, Hackernews, Reddit, and more. There is an overwhelming amount of information available to me, often resulting in having more than 100 tabs open in my browser. Although I may read 200 tabs a day, the number of tabs doesn't seem to decrease. Information keeps flooding in, and I end up moving articles to a "read later" list without actually reading them. This alone can consume as much as an hour of my time.
Furthermore, when I finally get around to processing the articles in my "read later" list, I encounter additional challenges:
1. Most of the context is lost, requiring me to re-read the articles.
2. Some of the information is already outdated.
3. After reviewing some information, I decide to keep it for further reading, adding to an ever-growing backlog.
Although I have attempted to set limits for myself, allowing only social media and information intake before 8:30 a.m., I struggle to adhere to those boundaries due to the constant influx of new information. I fear missing out on something important.
Realizing the detrimental nature of this habit, I have come to understand that it leads to wasted time and a sense of being overwhelmed by the abundance of information. My obsession with consuming information is causing me trouble.
## How Great People Handle This
Consider how successful individuals like CEOs, such as Elon Musk, manage overwhelming amounts of information. They are constantly engaged in meetings and lack sufficient time to handle all incoming information. To address this, they selectively choose to participate in the most important meetings. Since it's impossible for them to handle all the information themselves, they rely on delegating the task of filtering information to their subordinates.
## Why I Cannot Handle It That Way
I cannot adopt the same approach as these high-profile individuals because, as an individual, I lack a team of people to process information on my behalf. Consequently, I face the challenge of information overwhelm.
## Problems Resulting from Information Overwhelm
Information overwhelm can lead to numerous problems, including procrastination and decreased productivity, difficulties in decision-making, reduced effectiveness of learning, increased stress and mental fatigue, an inability to stay updated with relevant developments, a lack of clarity and focus, and a loss of creativity and originality. Addressing this problem is crucial to improve overall well-being and achieve greater productivity and effectiveness.
## The Problem of Feed and how Can We Fix This
Most of the information come from feed. There are two types of the information input.
1. Feed
2. Active search
Twitter, instagram, reddit, substack, hacker news are all feed. Because you can scroll infinitely. Github is not feed because there is an end for everyday. Google search is not feed because you actively search for only the information you want. Feed is dangerous, because it can drown you with a pool of information and you are afraid of missing some important thing.
> [!warning] Just back to basic!!!!!!!!!!
To fix this, just [[Capturing essence|back to basic]]!🚨 Cut the information from the source. There are just too much that I can handle.
### Read More Important Feed
read more important feed so that we can read less
### Use AI Summary
1. use Ad block to hide things on twitter.
2. copy, paste and summarise things using AI

### Change the Habit from Feed to Active search
Active searching is more effective and more coherent to “get things done” philosophy anyway.
### Learn to Let Go, Set a time Frame
Don’t be afraid to let go of information. If you miss them, just let it be. Missing information is better than missing your real life. Think about your interaction with the people.
